For more than 100 years, Maytag has produced dozens of products ranging from French-door refrigerators to high-efficiency dryers. The company's 2014 lineup includes four full-sized dishwashers, each in the Jetclean series. While these appliances differ slightly in features and specifications, Maytag offers universal troubleshooting advice for its dishwashers in case they fall short in the dish-washing department.
Water Remedies
Sometimes food left on dishes after you run the machine results from water-related problems with your Maytag dishwasher. If your dishwasher does not fill with water, address the simplest possibilities first -- make sure the appliance's door is closed and latched and that your water supply valve is turned on. Check the machine's interior compartment for a buildup of suds and remove them -- the Jetclean line does not fill with water if the washer detects suds. Maytag recommends using a rinse aid to remedy dishes that don't dry completely and to prevent chalky hard-water residue from appearing on your dishware. Installing a water softener for your home also helps prevent hard-water residue, as does using fresh, high-quality detergent and a detergent booster or additive water softener.
Dish Fixes
In some cases, the arrangement of the dishes causes complications, rather than the appliance itself. To ensure optimal cleaning, remove leftover food, eggshells and bones from your dishes before loading them, and make sure no dishes block the movement of the washer's spray arm. Load your items with their soiled surfaces facing down to encourage better water coverage from your Jetclean washer's bottom-mounted spray arm. If detergent remains on the machine's dispenser or parts of detergent tablets lie on the bottom of the tub after washing, rearrange your load so large, flat dishes or containers do not block the detergent dispenser.
Stain Solutions
Proper loading helps address particularly persistent food stains, but heavily soiled dishes sometimes call for further action. Use your dishwasher's Jetclean or Jetclean Plus steam cycle for loads with lots of caked-on residue. Likewise, Hi-Temp and Sani Rinse options target tougher stains. If stains commonly plague your dishes, make sure your hot water heater is set to 120 degrees Fahrenheit; Maytag notes that lower temperatures are not adequate to clean or sanitize the dishes in its line of dishwashers.
